Health & Safety: For the Record
Just a quick followup on Monday’s story about the new round of health and safety inspections that started last week:
There was some confusion as to how involved CLLC was in the inspections, especially with the fact that violations are recorded by the university. James Kohl, director of Residential Life and Education for CLLC, sent this information along to explain some thing.
- Health and Safety inspection sheets are sent by The Office of Risk Management to the Office of Residential Life and Education (RL&E). If the inspection sheet indicates that a health and safety violation was found, and it is the first violation of that type, RL&E issues warning letters to the residents of the room. If it is the second health and safety violation, Residential Life and Education refers the case to Student Judicial Services (SJS).
- In cases of serious violations of the “Code of Student Conduct”, such as the presence of drugs or weapons, UPD is contacted by the inspectors during the inspection. As in all other cases of this nature, a Police report is filed and referred to SJS.
- Last semester:
- Just over 200 Health and safety warning letters were distributed to residents.
- No incidents were referred to SJS from RL&E for second time violations.
