Board of Trustees to meet Friday

GW’s Board of Trustees will meet for the first time of the year on Friday. The Board meets four times a year, once every season, to discuss matters of student and academic affairs.

They meet with administrators at 9 a.m. for a general session before going into executive session to discuss financial matters in private.

Gatherings of the Board are closed to students, which is a concern for many, including student leaders. Only invitees and student media are allowed to attend.

That’s where we come in.

The Daily Colonial will be at tomorrow’s meeting. In an effort to provide transparency and information, we will (attempt to) liveblog the meeting in real time.

What does that mean? Well, because we have these blogs, we can give you an account of what happens during the meeting. There will be one post, probably headlined “Live from the Board of Trustees,” that will be constantly updated with the latest news from the meeting.

So, here’s what you can do: Friday morning, with your Tassimo coffee and iTunes playlist, get comfortable next to your computer, access the NewsBlog and virtually watch the Board of Trustees meeting as it’s happening. You may need to refresh the page every once in a while to get the latest posts.

It will probably end up looking like a reporter’s notebook, with random facts and quotes strewn about. We’ll try to clean it up as much as possible.

Will anyone read it? Who knows… but you can if you want to.

Unlike most liveblogging on the internet, our liveblogging from the Board of Trustees meeting will not include commentary. As interesting as it would be to know what President Trachtenberg is wearing or when Chairman Mannatt takes a sip of water. It is not our job to provide that. It is our job, however, to be observers and we will do our best to accurately paint a picture of the proceedings for you.

Liveblogging may not work, whether it’s because of restrictions by the university, bad wireless connection, or just bad typing skills… but we’re going to try.

Expect full reports on all the news made at the Board of Trustees meeting next week in the Daily Colonial.

[…] Quick recap, Daily Colonial Managing Editor Riki Parikh was planning on liveblogging the Board of Trustees Meeting. Riki blogged his plans on Thursday morning (and we were excited), but GW’s media gatekeepers decided, much like ourselves in 9th grade, that they weren’t about to be peer-pressured into anything they weren’t comfortable with. The results were we remained uncool through high school, and the event went what we’ll call “unliveblogged.” […]
