Class of ‘07 Tuition

The Board of Trustees raised the tuition price 3.9 percent on Friday.  This includes the tuition for rising seniors–this year’s juniors–who are part of the last class paying a new price every year.

Just for comparison’s sake and to see the inflation, we wanted to know how much of an increase they’ve seen.

When the Class of 2007 arrived in 2003, they paid $29,350.  Next year, they will pay $33,590.

We’re going to try to get some context on this, but here it is for now…

I didn’t think they could raise our tuition. What gives? Could you explain this?

    Angered Student ‘07:

The Board of Trustees decided at their Winter meeting in 2004, during the class of 2007’s freshman year, to begin implementing a fixed rate tuition plan.

This fixed rate plan was intended allow parents of the incoming freshmen to adequately plan their children’s future and know exactly how much they needed to pay.

The fixed rate tuition, however, did not apply retroactively. Thus, the Class of 2007 has paid an increased tuition fee every year. Rising seniors will be the last class that has a different tuition rate year to year.

Thanks for the question. If you have any more, please don’t hesitate to post them and we’ll get some answers for you.
