Special Sections
In the next week, we’re going to launch two “Special Report” sections that will hopefully make some very complex issues easier to understand and digest.
The first will be our special “GW Votes 2006″ section, which will cover the upcoming Student Association, Program Board, and Marvin Center Governing Board elections.
It’s no secret that GW takes their elections seriously. As budding politicians and partisan hacks, we love our politics. And what better way to get our fix that to run our own campaigns.
So as student leaders go all-out for their campaign, we’ll cover the details as best as possible, giving you candidate issues, slate platforms and JEC violations results. And, of course, we’ll have our famous candidate interviews.
Some people say that we cover the SA too seriously, making it more of a deal than it is or should be. The reason we cover the SA so much is because we think it is and should be important.
Despite how dysfunctional and ineffective the SA has been in the past, every year we get a fresh chance to elect new student leaders that have direct access to administrators to get what we want done. So we will do our best to help you make an informed decision when you vote for your next student leaders.
The election is expected sometime in April. That’s right, April. So why start covering it so early? Because the candidates have. In fact, they’ve been planning since November.
The other special section will be a collection of stories and graphics pertaining to GW’s expansion in Foggy Bottom.
“GW in Foggy Bottom” will include all the information and stories we’ve done about Square 54 and campus planning, as well as new maps and graphics that explain what GW plans to do in the upcoming years. We hope to have videos of GW administrators explaining their rationale and Foggy Bottom residents discussing their woes.
We hope these sections will be the go-to place for facts and information regarding elections and expansion. Rather than individually searching for articles that we’ve run, this will be a central location, much like our new Sports Portal.
If you have suggestions for any other special section you’d like to see, let us know.
Looks like great stuff! Hopefully a good number of kids will look at both these sections and get informed.
