SMPA narrows director search

The search for a new director for the School of Media and Public Affairs has been narrowed down to four.

The names were revealed at Thursday’s meeting with SMPA students. They are:

  • Bill Press, former head of Dem. Party in California and former co-host of Crossfire on CNN. Press currently hosts his own national radio show.
  • Frank Sesno, former Washington bureau chief for CNN and former host of Late Edition. Sesno is currently a professor at George Mason University.
  • Charles Lane, former editor of the New Republic. Lane currently covers Supreme Court for the Washington Post
  • Lee Huebner, former publisher of the International Herald Tribune and speechwriter for Richard Nixon. Huebner current is a professor of journalism and communications at Northwestern University.

According to Steve Roberts, SMPA professor and the head of the search committee, all four candidates will visit GW in the coming weeks as part of the final selection process.

Roberts expects a final decision to be made on or around April 20.
