Finance Committee to reclaim Corr’s funds, recommends censure

The Senate Finance Committee issued its own comprehensive, analysis today on the Corr Financial Scandal of 2006, a day after the Student Association’s Vice President of Judicial and Legislative Affairs Jeff Goodman ‘07 recommended the impeachment of Executive Vice President Morgan Corr ‘07.

The committee will look to take back the remaining of Corr’s executive budget.

“The Committee has chosen to exercise its authority and issue a bill for immediate consideration at the next meeting of the Senate to reclaim all remaining funds allocated to the Executive budget for the use of the Executive Vice President,” said the report.

It decided not to penalize IAS and has let it keep the $1,000 given by Corr.
The committee also recommended the censure of Corr, which is a significantly lesser punishment than Goodman’s impeachment suggestion.

The report finds nothing new in terms of the allegations against Corr: it concurs with the Goodman report that Corr violated an established bylaw when he transferred the funds to IAS.

The report did place some blame on Stephanie Adelman ‘07, who has served as vice president of financial affairs for two years and whose job it is to approve any financial transactions. Though they acknoweldge that Corr’s signature on the form was authority enough for the transaction to occur, they say Adelman should have noticed something awry.

“The Committee… noted that the incumbent in the office of Vice President for Financial Affairs is charged with knowledge and enforcement of the financial rules of the Senate and the University and, in this instance, failed to appropriately carry out her responsibilities,” said the report.

As for the allegations that Corr paid for his endorsement by the IAS, the Committee found no link between the politics and the money. However, they say the mere suggestion is “harmful” to the SA.

“While the Committee finds no evidence to support a link of any sort between the funding transfer and the political support [by the IAS,] the suggestion that allocations of student body funds have been made for these reasons causes great embarrassment to the Student Association, injures its reputation and ability to advocate to the administration and reflects poorly on the members of its governing bodies.

How can the Daily Colonial endorse Morgan after he blatantly misused student funds, violated basic rules, bought student org endorsements, and further embarressed the SA?
