Election Day

We just released our exit polls. Looks like its a race between Morgan Corr ‘07, Elliot Rozenberg ‘08, and Lamar Thorpe ‘07 for Student Association President. Keep in mind these polls are not scientific; rather, they are reports from various polling locations at various times of the day.
Some items from the polling stations, where we’ve been hanging out for the majority of the day:
- Suprising start for Rozenberg, considering he nor his slate were out campaigning on the streets on Monday or yesterday.
- Corr and his Real GW posse were out this morning giving out Krispy Kreme donuts bright and early.
- The Marvin Center basement computer lab is by far the most popular polling station. Most students are coming in right after they are accosted on the streets by the barrage of candidates and supporters on H Street. This is mostly because the Marvin Center is completely electronic voting.
- The 1957 E Street location was difficult to find this morning. No signs pointed the way to the basement computer lab. Only a handful of students are going there between classes. Signs were finally posted this afternoon in the polling locations.
- In the Funger Hall, Ross Hall and Mount Vernon locations, students are required to provide their GWid in order to vote via paper ballot, which many don’t know off the top of their heads. As a result, only 18 people voted at Funger between 9 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. They just brought over a laptop with wireless internet to the Funger location so students can look up their GWid.
- The Law School saw a pick up in votes around noon after an extremely slow morning. The Student Bar Association, the law school’s representative body, endorsed Corr for president and Josh Lasky ‘07 for EVP last night. This is significant because law students generally vote in blocs.
- As far as exit polling goes, there seems to be less undecideds coming into the polls. As expected the slates are pulling strong. Voters are entering the locations with bright yellow GWUnited palmcards, wearing bright blue Real GW t-shirts, carrying College Party food and beverage. Most people seem sure of who they are voting for before they enter and confidently exclaim their vote as they exit.
- At the Marvin Center location this morning, one voter complained that EVP Candidate Kristen Walker ‘09 was openly chatting about who to vote for while she was in the computer lab. The voter said she “felt uncomfortable.” THe JEC was notified; no word on weather any action will be taken against her.
Stay tuned for more musings and observations later in the day.

Hey Rik-
Everyone likes the exit polling a lot. One thing - if it’s possible, it might be cool if you put how many total people are included in the survey - if its 50 or 100 people, it’s very close; if we have 500, some people are going to have some major catching up to do. Just a thought.
great blog…
