First round over; CCAS still in the air

The race for the six Columbian College seats is still up in the air. We’re waiting for a JEC announcement sometime today.

Other things from last night:

  • The total number of people we exit polled was 2169, almost double last year. We were within two percentage points of the actual numbers.
  • The numbers for the presidential race were the only that were released last night. The JEC is going to count and recount the Senate seats before 5 p.m. today before giving the final numbers.
  • Last night’s tally was the quickest in six years, according to SA folk. The JEC finished counting paper ballots at around 11:40 p.m. They went to their fourth floor office with the election oversight committee to verify the ballots and sign the legal paperwork.
  • Because no one expected the ballots to be counted that quickly, many of the candidates were not present. At around 11:45 p.m., after the JEC left, phone calls were made to all the candidates by the handful of people that were present in the Grand Ballroom. Within 20 minutes, the place was packed with candidates and their supporters, many of them just beginning to feel the effects of their post-campaign after-parties.
