MAY 30, 2006 — JBKO Residence Hall was evacuated early this morning as fire crews hosed down its roof after flames and large amounts of smoke started to rise from the outdoor deck. There was minimal damage to the roof and residents returned to their dorms a little more than an hour later.

Mark Harris ‘06, who will graduate on Sunday with a political science degree, won his bid last night to be the Republican nominee in the upcoming Pennsylvania House of Representatives race for District 42. Harris beat veteran Rep. Tom Stevenson, with about 45 percent of the vote.

Aramark, GW’s main food vendor, will be out of J Street on May 31 and will be replaced by competitor Sodexho, according to a University spokesperson.
Aramark decided to terminate its own contract with GW after finding that GW’s pay-as-you-go dining model was not profitable, said Matt Lindsay, assistant director of media relations.
