BoT Meeting: SJT addresses retirement, fundraising

There was a mood of transition at Friday’s spring Board of Trustees meeting, which kicked off Commencement Weekend.  The Board met in a classroom in the new Duques Hall and paid tribute to departing Trustees and welcomed new Student Association President Lamar Thorpe ’07.

This was also the first time the entire Board has met in person since GW President Stephan Joel Trachtenberg’s decision to retire.  They previously conferred via telephone when Trachtenberg made the announcement in April.

Trachtenberg, who usually speaks candidly before the Board, made a prepared statement which touched upon his impending retirement, the search for a new president and his vision for the future of the University, focusing on the need to increase endowment and maximize on GW’s unique location.
