Report: Trachtenberg successor chosen

According to a report posted on the Web site for the GW Hatchet, the Board of Trustees voted last week to confirm Steven Knapp, the provost of Johns Hopkins University, to replace GW President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg.

The University is not confirming the report and is “not making any announcement at this time,” said Tracy Schario, director of media relations.

The Hatchet report has Trachtenberg confirming the selection of Knapp. Schario said that Trachtenberg was speaking for himself.

Trachtenberg announced in April that he will step down in July 2007 after 19 years as president of the University.
