Eddie Bieber, beloved “Old Man Schenley,” dead at 96

Edgar Bieber, the long-time Foggy Bottom resident known affectionately around campus as “Old Man Schenley,” died Thursday, May 31, the University confirmed. He was 96.

The former Oylmpic cyclist had been in George Washington University Hospital since May 7 after falling and breaking his hip, said close friend Annette Eliasberg. Complications from the injury led to his death.

Eliasberg said there are no plans for a formal ceremony, but that next month there will be celebration of his life held in The Schenley.
