Pelham construction given green light

From Metro Editor Brittany Grimm:

In a unanimous decision Monday night, the D.C. Zoning Commission approved GW’s plan to replace Pelham Hall with a new structure of the same name.

Plans for the new Pelham Hall include unspecified student support space and potentially a new dining hall, according to a University press release. Students will live in suites of four single-bedroom units, sharing a common space and bathroom. The building will have a red-brick exterior stylistically similar to other Mount Vernon Campus buildings, and utilize sustainable design elements.

The new building, for which construction is set to begin in summer 2008, will add approximately 200 students to MV. Of the 480 people who currently call the campus home, 78 are in Pelham. The new Pelham is slated to house 287 students and several staff members, according to the press release.
