No more error reports?
This one comes from… well, a hell of a lot of people, to tell you the truth. Everyone seems to want to know the answer to this simple question:
“Why did you get rid of the ‘Error Report’ feature?”
Simple: It was shamelessly abused.
When I added the Error Report feature about a year ago, I figured it would be used to, you know, report errors. Makes sense, right? The thing is, although some people did use it correctly, the overwhelming majority chose to make a joke of it.
These chuckleheads decided it was a great way to anonymously take shots – both a wimpy and annoying maneuver.
So, almost daily, we were treated to a barrage of vulgar and insulting comments that had nothing to do with any kind of actual error. These were the kind of things that are usually said only by spineless losers who need to hide behind the anonymity of the internet.
And who were the spineless losers?
Well, like I said, it was anonymous, but the network addresses show that it was mostly the same six or seven people every day. The most comments, though, came from a small number of people who just happen to have network addresses in the range reserved for a certain townhouse at 2140 G Street.
If that’s what they spend all their time doing, I guess it explains a few things.
But seriously, it was a problem. I think this is the best way to do it – if you have a legitimate complaint, either write a letter or complain here. If you don’t have a legitimate complaint, you probably won’t take the time to do either. It both helps weed out the idiots and get you better answers at the same time.
I hope that answers your questions.
How many page views does your site get daily? More than The Hatchet?
Could you explain the purpose of the D.C. blog? It seems to be Levenback’s own rant space without the content or purpose found on most of the other pages.
Some of his entries are interesting, but some of them lack coherence, including the latest, which began with a hard to read, poorly written paragraph about sports, went on to the the Art Director’s blog…which looks good, but certainly isn’t pressing and hasn’t been updated in a while…and ended with him saying he skipped class.
I did find the entry about Blitzer amusing, and the one about Parikh interesting, but Levenback’s comments were frankly distracting.
Is this his own blog? What is it supposed to be about, and is it supposed to be funny?
Nice work chief
