Help shape our future

This year, The Daily Colonial is changing our governance system to be more inclusive and more public. We’re setting up a Trustee Council to provide top-level advising and conflict resolution, and we’re looking for a student outside the publication to help out.

One seat on the council has been allocated to the student body as a whole. To represent that, we are looking for a student to take one place on the council.

The job has three parts. The first two are year-round, but infrequently called upon. First, from time to time the Executive Committee would call on the student trustee to provide an outside student-body perspective on major issues. Second, the student trustee could be called on to help interpret our constitution.

The most interesting and immediate part of the job, though, is assisting in choosing our next Editor-in-Chief. Over the next month, the Council will be reviewing nominees for the position. It will be their job to screen each candidate for the ability to do the job, before sending the approved nominees back to the Executive Committee for a final vote.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in how newspapers work on the highest levels, and for anyone that is a dedicated reader of The Daily Colonial. It also happens to be a low-impact, occasional position, so other than election season in November, it doesn’t require that much time to do, either.

If you’re interested, contact me a gm@dailycolonial.com. I can get you some more information. Do it quick, though – I can only pick one person!
