Big Warner Audition
This item caught our eye this morning over at Hotline:
“Davos!
…This year, the star American politicians include Ex-Gov. Mark Warner (D-VA) and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ).Warner might use the Davos experience to convince the global business/political intelligencia — there really is no better way to describe the participants –that he can grasp the finer points of foreign policy.
Dems know that John Edwards’ boffo performance at another major global meet in ‘04 valued [sic] to the top of Kerry’s vice presidential list. Before the the Bilderberg Society conclave in June of 04, Edwards needed major party poo-bahs to bless his newly-acquired foreign policy credentials.”
In other words, this is a big week for GW’s most in vogue alumnus. As an out of work ex-governor whose greatest achievement in foreign affairs is flying first class on Virgin Atlantic, Warner needs to impress if he is going to be taken seriously as a foreign policy mind come ‘08.
Party politics aside, we here at PoliBlog are rooting for Warner, if only because basketball games at the Smith Center are going to be more interesting when El Presidente has season tickets. Talk about home court advantage. Teams would be on notice: beat us at home and the Secret Service will not only impound your team bus, but probably break your power forward’s legs. Go team!
One final note (and sorry for gushing on this topic, we can’t help ourselves). This whole “auditioning with the world’s political and business elite before national elections” trend has got us thinking: Are SJT and the inner circle of Deans holding auditions right now for SA elections? We sure hope so.
